We’ve always valued that.īut as I think of the seniors that are part of the Ogletown family I am thinking of them now with a renewed sensitivity. In both of our services, we have 10 year olds and 90 year olds who attend. We feel like we are stronger because of different generations, even though it’s not easy to navigate a multi-generational ministry. Our church has always been about the generations. God has stirred in my heart a deep care for senior adults, especially those in our OBC family. But I have felt a sense growing in my heart. It doesn’t take one bit away from what we feel for the next generation. Read Matthew 19 for more on that.īut these days, I’ve felt another impulse. We put our ministry to preschoolers, kids, teenagers, college students front and center, without apology. Our entire church puts hours, not into child-care, but into ministry to the next generation. A lot of parents are invested in making disciples of their children. So, we believe that discipling another generation is mission critical. Carmel, Missionary Travels of Paul), and even more concerning they don’t know the Gospel – they don’t know that God created us for a relationship with him, but that relationship can only come through trusting in what Jesus did for us in the Cross and Resurrection. We know many kids don’t know basic Bible stories (Abraham/Isaac, Elijah/Mt. Yet, we are burdened by the fact that we know that many in the next generation are walking away from the Lord. We do this because we know that God’s steadfast love extends to thousands of generations, according to Exodus 34. Ogletown focuses a lot on “the next generation.” That’s a major heartbeat of our church. I want to share today about being Old and Gray, and Not Abandoned. Also, last week, I challenged Ogletown to see “what’s in our hand” that the Lord might use. So, yesterday I talked about some values of our church, and I’d be glad to have you listen/read that if you haven’t yet.
